SHS gears up garden for summer

The first official day of summer is here, and students have been readying the garden at Marchant House.
Marchant House opened in February this year, thanks to a grant awarded from the Wolfson Foundation to Autism East Midlands, who runs Sutherland House School.
This 3-bedroom house in Chilwell is used as a training centre to help students develop vital skills and independence within a house setting.
Skills such as cooking, cleaning and gardening are all practised at Marchant House with the key aim to build up independence and confidence as students become adults.
Pictured are some of the tasks that students would perform while at Marchant House, such as cooking lunch and mowing the lawn to get the garden ready for the summer.
The building itself was donated to Autism East Midlands and Sutherland House School by the late Eric Kenneth Marchant and is named in his memory.
