Students and staff at Sutherland House School have stepped up to the challenge and raised funds for the school.
Four youngsters and three members of staff were sponsored to walk a total of 700 miles between them throughout November.
Teacher, Briony Eaton, said: “The idea came about as the students said they had no motivation to do anything active at weekends. We are trying to promote a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating and more exercise and this is just one of the tasks that we came up with. Together we devised a plan that would get us out of the house and also raise money for a good cause.”
Each weekend the youngsters walked in their local neighbourhoods and were also given a challenge to complete and the person who walked the most received a prize the following week.
They were sponsored to do this as they wanted to raise money for a Christmas pot that was split between all the classes to enjoy a special treat at Christmas. They monitored their progress daily using pedometers and spreadsheets.
